Qualifications: 

  • PHD or Masters in Materials Science or Metallurgical Engineering 
  • 10+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment 
  • Very experienced with reactive metal alloys and their manufacturing processes on large and small scale furnaces 
  • Managed and certify alloy suppliers (raw material non-conformances)
  • Perform root cause and failure analysis 
  • Assist in customer support and regulatory compliance 

Responsibilities:

  • Acquire and analyze photographs, digital pictures, differential scanning calorimetry, microscopy images, scanning electron microscope images, and results from energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy
  • Mechanical properties such as hardness and micro-hardness testing as well as microstructure analysis
  • Conduct metallurgical research and investigations to ensure quality products to customers, to discover the causes of failure, and seek new, more efficient ways to utilize our processes
  • Operate various microscopes to include light microscope, optical microscope, inverted microscope, digital microscope, and scanning electron microscope
  • Monitor new product and processes available to reduce costs, increase efficiency and quality
  • Assist in and design of experiments and perform experiments to determine component and material life predictions, material substitution, new materials, coatings, joining processes such as welding, and corrosion prevention compounds.
