Job Description

Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering or a comparable level of hands-on experience.

  • A minimum of five years of experience performing compliance testing on power electronics or grid-interactive inverters.

  • Hands-on experience with major standards like UL 1741, IEEE 1547, and IEC 62109.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in successfully completing product certifications.

  • Practical experience with both grid-interactive and grid-support standards and codes.

  • Strong communication and documentation skills.

  • Exceptional attention to detail, with the ability to interpret and apply complex technical standards.

  • Proficiency in operating lab equipment, executing tests, troubleshooting issues, and reporting data effectively.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute engineering and pre-compliance test plans by interpreting and applying various standards, such as UL 1741, IEEE 1547, and IEC 61000 Series.

  • Draft test plans that align with internal product design requirements, outlining grid and safety compliance needs.

  • Configure test setups, including both hardware and firmware, process the resulting data, and submit findings for official certification.

  • Conduct a wide range of tests, including those for electrical safety, fault response, environmental exposure, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), and abnormal conditions.

  • Operate and maintain a variety of lab instruments, such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and grid simulators, as well as build, calibrate, and modify test fixtures.

  • Generate comprehensive test reports and documentation, and serve as a technical liaison between the internal certification team and third-party NRTLs (Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratories) like UL and Intertek.

  • Provide technical input for estimating testing efforts, identifying site requirements, and determining which standards are applicable.

  • Work with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot test-related issues and contribute to a safer, more efficient, and accurate lab environment.

  • Familiarity with energy storage systems, solar inverters, or other grid-tied power products is beneficial.

  • Experience with automation and scripting for compliance testing, particularly with Python.
