Senior Mechanical Engineer (Plastics)
Job Description
Location: Fremont, CA (Hybrid – 3 days onsite)
Qualifications
-
B.S./M.S. in Mechanical Engineering or related field
-
5+ years in plastic part design and injection molding
-
Proficient in SolidWorks, PDM, and mold flow tools (Moldflow, Sigmasoft)
-
Strong knowledge of GD&T, tolerance analysis, and DFM/DFA for injection molding

Experience with thermoplastic material selection, failure analysis, and prototyping (rapid tooling, 3D printing, bridge molding)

Familiarity with mass production, secondary operations (inserts, welding, overmolding)
Responsibilities

Design and analyze plastic components using CAD/FEA and mold flow simulation

Collaborate with tooling engineers and suppliers for manufacturability and cycle time efficiency

Apply DFM/DFA best practices to reduce defects (gating, draft, cooling, shrinkage, warpage control)
-
Lead RCA for molding issues and drive corrective actions during production ramps
-
Oversee prototypes and validation builds; manage R&D budgets for molded parts

Mentor engineers in plastics design and supplier engagement
