Job Description

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED; technical certification or Associate's degree in Optics, Manufacturing Technology, or related field preferred
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience in precision manufacturing, optical fabrication, or related technical environment
  • Proven experience with precision measurement tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers, height gauges)
  • Exceptional manual dexterity and fine motor skills for working with small, delicate components
  • Ability to read and accurately interpret technical drawings and manufacturing work instructions
  • Strong attention to detail, visual acuity, and ability to perform prolonged magnified inspection for cosmetic defects
  • Direct experience operating optical fabrication machinery (CNC generators, polishers, grinders, centering machines)
  • Experience with optical metrology equipment (interferometers, autocollimators, radius gauges, surface profilometers)
  • Knowledge of standard cleaning and handling procedures for precision optics
  • Experience in ISO 9001-certified manufacturing environment

Responsibilities:

  • Operate and maintain conventional and CNC optical fabrication equipment including generators, grinders, polishers, and centering machines
  • Perform precision operations such as grinding, lapping, polishing, and shaping of lenses, prisms, and mirrors to meet exacting geometric and surface specifications
  • Conduct detailed in-process and final inspection of optical components using precision metrology tools
  • Clean, handle, and assemble optical components into high-precision opto-mechanical assemblies adhering to strict cleanroom protocols
  • Accurately read and interpret engineering blueprints, travelers, work orders, and technical specifications, and record all fabrication and test data
