Job Description
Qualifications:
Responsibilities:
- Experience programming 5-axis CNC machine tools – preferably in an R&D or prototyping environment (mills, lathes, vertical mills)
- Experience or strong familiarity with CAM software such as Mastercam, Surfcam, Fusion 360, Hypermill)
- Strong understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (<.001 in or 25µm) Understanding of process capacity as they pertain to “feasible” tolerances
- Experience in inspection and metrology - familiarity with inspection equipment (CMM, visual inspection equipment)
- Experience creating fixtures and tooling to design workholding devices such as soft jaws, vacuum fixtures, modular tombstones
- Proficient with manual machines (drill presses, saws, mills, lathes), power tools
Responsibilities:
- Interpret 3?D models & prints, plan setups, program CAM, fixtures, and inspect
- Run a variety of CNC equipment (3?axis, 3 + 2, and true 5?axis mills, live?tool lathes, waterjet, laser) to tolerance levels down to ± .0005 in (± 13 µm).
- Develop creative work?holding and tooling solutions for one?off and low?run parts
- Program quickly and efficiently in CAM while maintaining shared tool libraries and templates.
- In?process and final inspections (calipers, micrometers, height gauge, CMM) and by documenting setups, offsets, and learnings for the team.
- Refine feeds/speeds, propose process improvements, keep machines maintained, and uphold our EHS & dress?code standards.
- Train & mentor junior machinists and shop technicians, sharing best practices in machining, metrology, and CAD/CAM workflows.
- Collaborate with engineers to ensure part manufacturability and suggest design tweaks to increase quality and shorten machining time.
